MEET OUR KIDS ADVISORY BOARD: Sam Davis

We’re excited to introduce our ChopChop Kids Advisory Board (KAB). This group of cool kids was hand selected from kids that applied. They’ll help us to test recipes, think of new ideas for the magazine, and make sure ChopChop gets the kid approval. For the next few weeks, we’ll be spotlighting different members of the board. This week, meet Sam! Sam’s only 13, but he’s already gotten to dine at the White House! Learn more about Sam, below.

Name: William “Samuel” Davis

Location: Shreveport, Louisiana

Age and Grade:13 years old 8th grade

Who taught you how to cook? My sister and my mother; I learned by watching them.

What is something all kids should learn to cook? Hamburgers because they are super easy.

Have you ever messed up a recipe? What was it and what happened? Eggs, I left them in the pan too long and burned them.

Do you have any advice for kids just learning to cook and who may be nervous? Don’t give up..let adults help until you get comfortable.…be careful when you heat grease because sometimes it pops on the stove.

My favorite food is: Meatloaf

If I was a vegetable or fruit I would be: An orange because I am sometimes sour but most of the time sweet

What I love about ChopChop is: The magazine helps me learn about new ideas (recipes) to cook healthy and the magazine is cool to read especially about other people my age.

Something I didn’t used to like to eat, but I do now is: Smoked ham.

My favorite thing to cook is: Tacos and hamburgers because it is fun to make my own spice blend…so many different spices

The first thing I ever cooked was: Eggs.

My secret ingredient is: Brown sugar; a tad of sweetness is not bad the first time I have ever used this was in an omelet. I coat ham with brown sugar and surprisingly, it tastes delicious.

Some of my hobbies are: Reading, piano, guitar, television.

A fun fact about me: I entered a cooking contest and won 15K! I was sooo excited.

What I want to be when I grow up: I want to be a children’s pediatrician. Cooking will just be a hobby that I am excellent at.
