National Oatmeal Month

Happy National Oatmeal Month! We don’t usually celebrate oatmeal, but we do eat it a lot. So this January, we’re taking a few extra opportunities to put one of our favorite breakfast foods in the spotlight. Here are four kinds of oatmeal you can make this month. We have recipes for basic oatmeal, hearty oatmeal, a fruity oatmeal, and even a savory oatmeal.

  1. Basic: Homemade Instant Oatmeal

We bet you didn’t know how easy it is to make oatmeal yourself. Skip store-bought instant oatmeal, and make your own instant oatmeal by just grinding up regular oats! It’s healthier, cheaper, and just as quick—thanks to our do-ahead method that lets you prepare a lot at once, and then make breakfast one bowl at a time.

  1. Hearty: Irish Oatmeal

Many people don’t want to take the time to cook delicious Irish oatmeal. But 10 minutes of preparation the night before makes this breakfast, made of steel-cut oats, really fast! Of course, if you don’t have time to plan ahead, old-fashioned rolled oats cook in about 5 minutes once the water is boiling.

  1. Fruity: Blueberry Refrigerator Oatmeal

If you like blueberries, try this fruity, creamy oatmeal. Assemble it the night before, and then, while you sleep, your fridge will do all the work for you! In the morning, just grab the jar and go.

  1. Savory: Green Oatmeal

You probably think of oatmeal as a hot breakfast cereal topped with cinnamon, raisins, apples, or other fruit. Our twist on oats makes it a savory meal that can be eaten at other times of the day too. Try it—if you’re like us, it just might become your new favorite way to eat oatmeal!
