Mother’s Day Breakfast in Bed

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!   When I was younger my mom asked for two things for Mother’s Day: well behaved children and breakfast in bed. My brother and I couldn’t make any promises on the first request, but we always came through with the breakfast in bed (with the help of our dad).

These four recipes are easy for kids of all ages to help make with the help of another parent or older sibling.  If you’re a mom, print out these recipes and leave them on the kitchen table as a “big hint” for your kids to make for breakfast this Sunday morning while you relax and enjoy.  Or look through the recipes section of our website for some more ideas.

Layered Yogurt Parfait

Parfaits are an easy no-cook recipe that even the youngest sous chefs can help with.  Kids can layer yogurt, granola, and fruit in a clear glass to make a beautiful and delicious side to your breakfast.  Plus, since it’s in a tall, thin cup, it’s easy for small hands to transport up the stairs.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie

Kids love to make smoothies because they’re quick and easy, it’s fun to watch the blender mash everything up, and they’re great for breakfast, a snack, or even with a meal.  Plus, there are so many delicious options!   Smoothies are kind of like a “choose your own adventure book.”  Your child can put in what you like, let it mix, and it see what happens.  You might want to guide your child with a recipe, so have them try this Strawberry Banana Smoothie. Or if you like other fruits, check out our other smoothie recipes here.

German Pancake

This recipe requires adult help and takes about 35 minutes, but it makes enough to share with your whole family (if you want to!).  This pancake tastes great topped with fresh fruit.  Of course, your kids can also make regular pancakes with our Buttermilk Pancakes recipe here.

Scrambled Egg on Toast

Eggs and toast are a breakfast staple and a great thing for kids to learn how to cook. With the help of an adult, this recipe takes just a few minutes and can be customized for your taste. Let your kids know if you want them to add in herbs, cheese, spinach, or other vegetables to the eggs.  Add a piece of toast and a side of fruit salad, and you have a complete breakfast (in bed!).
