MEET OUR KIDS ADVISORY BOARD: Clare
We’re excited to introduce our new ChopChop Kids Advisory Board (KAB). This group of cool kids was hand-selected from kids that applied. They’ll help us to test recipes, think of new ideas for the magazine, and make sure ChopChop gets the kid approval. For the next few weeks we’ll be spotlighting different members of the board.
This week, meet Clare. She loves figure skating, reading, and hugging.
Name: Clare
Location: Cambridge, MA
Age and grade: 12 years old, 7th grade
How I got involved with the KAB : I was on the board last year and loved it, so I decided to reapply, I am so glad I did!
Who taught you how to cook? This sounds really cliche, but I really learned how to cook from my grandmother, and from my mom constantly watching Ina Garten with me as a little kid.
What is something all kids should learn to cook? A gooey grilled cheese and tomato soup.
Have you ever messed up a recipe? I just did this last night actually, I was making this avocado ice cream and chocolate cake pops to look like an avocado and the cake pops soaked up all of the frosting, and the ice cream tasted like guacamole. Oops!
Do you have any advice for kids just learning to cook and who may be nervous? When you are cooking you have to be willing to take risks and mess up. Cooking is all about trial and error.
My favorite food is: I love all food, but my favorite food right now is greens. That is really broad, but right now I am really into salads. I love mixed greens, kale, romaine-but I hate arugula.
If I was a vegetable or fruit I would be: I think that I would be a raspberry, sometimes tangy, and sometimes sweet.
What I love about ChopChop is: All of ChopChop recipes are fun, creative, and easy to make! They find a way to reach out to everyone.
Something I didn’t used to like to eat, but I do now is: I have liked this food for a little while, but turnips. I used to hate turnips, and now they are my favorite.
My favorite thing to cook is: This really amazing saffron and shrimp risotto in my instant pot
The first thing I ever cooked was: My dad’s amazing tuna salad.
A fun fact about me: I have a webbed toe
What I want to be when I grow up: So cliche, but I really, really want to be a chef – Badly.
My favorite ChopChop recipe is: Molasses cookies!
