MEET OUR KIDS ADVISORY BOARD: Clare Bunn Thompson

We’re excited to introduce our ChopChop Kids Advisory Board (KAB). This group of cool kids was hand selected from kids that applied. They’ll help us to test recipes, think of new ideas for the magazine, and make sure ChopChop gets the kid approval. For the next few weeks, we’ll be spotlighting different members of the board. This week, meet Claire!

Clare loves to cook, but also has a lot of interests outside of cooking, like ice skating. She spends time figure skating in group lessons and with her coach at The Skating Club of Boston. She also participates in Runway for Recovery a fashion show for women who have survived breast cancer or had a family member who fought it to be able walk and support them. Clare supports her mom’s recovery at the event. Learn more about Clare, below!

How I got involved with the ChopChop Kids Advisory Board: My family receives the magazines and my mom gets the newsletter, so when it said that they were accepting applications I thought that I would try out.

Who taught you how to cook? My parents and my grandmother. I learned by watching them and getting interested in it, and then trying it myself.

What is something all kids should learn to cook? Grilled cheese and tomato soup. This is a good combo. It tastes good and has lots of nutrition.

Have you ever messed up a recipe? What was it and what happened? Once, I made ice cream with my mom, and when we put the hot ingredients in the cold ingredients, we ended up making scrambled eggs.

Do you have any advice for kids just learning to cook and who may be nervous? Start with easy recipes and as you get better move onto harder recipes.

My favorite food is: I could never pick one favorite food, but one of my favorites is cheese.

If I was a vegetable or fruit I would be: Kale!

What I love about ChopChop is: The recipes taste good, and they are all good for you!

Something I didn’t used to like to eat, but I do now isTurnips! (They are SO good.)

My favorite thing to cook is: Again, I could never pick a favorite, but I love to cook tacos!

The first thing I ever cooked was: Quesadillas.

My secret ingredient is: Nutritional yeast.

Some of my hobbies are: Cooking, reading, talking to my friends, organizing/planning, hugging.

A fun fact about me: I have a webbed toe.

What I want to be when I grow up: A professional chef with my own cooking show.
