Kids’ Share Week 7: A Colorful, Mixed Box
For our seventh week cooking from the Kids’ Share, we received a surplus of colorful ingredients from Siena Farms! The Kids’ Share is a weekly farm share for kids that includes a box of fresh produce, fun recipes, and a surprise. This week’s surprise was two small pinch bowls – perfect for small snacks or spices. This week’s share included: Green Cabbage, Red Cabbage, Carrots, Onion, Brussels Sprouts, Kennebec Potatoes, Apples, and Cilantro.
Fun Fact: Did you know that cabbages and Brussels Sprouts come from the same family? You can trace back their roots (hah!) to the same plant, brassica oleracea. This “family” also includes vegetables such as broccoli and kale!
“My favorite recipe I made was the Purple Cabbage Slaw. I decided to use the Green Cabbage in addition to the Red Cabbage. The slaw was crunchy and very tasty!” said Abby. The Purple Cabbage Slaw can be paired well with Fish Tacos. Check out some of the other recipes she created with this weeks share:
Roasted Brussels Sprouts (using Brussels Sprouts)
Purple Cabbage Slaw (using Green Cabbage, Red Cabbage, and Carrots)
Pan-Roasted Potatoes (using Kennebec Potatoes and Onion)
