Kids’ Share Week 11: Our Final Share
This week’s kids’ share marks our final week of farm share season! “Receiving the Kids’ Share from Siena Farms has been so much fun. It has inspired me to cook plenty of creative and fun recipes with in-season fruits and vegetables as the focus,” reflected Abby.
We love seeing how creative other kids have been with their weekly shares, including this “word-search soup” idea from Robin, Jack and Tommy of Boston. Using their extra vegetables from their share, they made a winter sausage minestrone soup (below) based upon the ChopChop word searches included in each box! While eating, Jack and Tommy were challenged to find the following vegetables: chard, fennel, carrots, butternut squash, potatoes, onion, garlic, and turnip.
Here’s what was in our final Kid’s Share this week: Bolero Carrots, Kennebec Potatoes, Broccoli, Butternut Squash, Parsnips, and Leeks. For the weekly surprise, we received a ChopChop cookbook—ChopChop: The Kids’ Guide to Cooking Real Food with Your Family. The cookbook is filled with family-favorite recipes from the magazine, plus dozens of new recipes.
With our final box, we made a recipe that is perfect for when you have leftovers or extra vegetables hanging around the kitchen: Build-Your-Own Grain Salad (using broccoli, butternut squash, and leeks). Try this recipe with a Grain Salad word-search featuring your favorite vegetable add-ins!
