ChopChop Cooking Camp Recap

Last week, the ChopChop Test Kitchen held it’s first Cooking Camp over April Vacation. Students from all over Massachusetts signed up and took part in the five-day cooking camp where they each learned new recipes, gained experience refining their kitchen skills, and making new friends in the process!

The days began early—around 9:00am—and the students were excited and ready to cook three new recipes each day.  Over the course of three hours each day, students learned important skills, like how to read a recipe, how to use a knife, and how to use a stove and oven safety. Preparing recipes start to finish boosted confidence within the class. Students were able to share their class leftovers with their families at the end of each class. “I’ve made dinner almost every night this week!” boasted one proud student.

Along with cooking recipes, students took part in taste tests, guessing games, and team recipe challenges, where students were challenged to customize a recipe while keeping in mind presentation, creativity, and taste. To complete the week, ChopChop held a Cooking Camp graduation ceremony to celebrate their successes in the kitchen. Each student received a graduation certificate, ChopChop Apron, recipe booklet, and a copy of ChopChop Magazine. As we said goodbye to our campers, many were sad to go, asking, “I wish I could stay here all day!” One camper proudly announced, “I am going to cook, cook, cook all the time!” Music to our ears!

And to Fully for donating custom chopping block work stations on the adjustable Jarvis frame, perfect for our young chefs. And to Deborah Berke Partners for designing the ideal environment to teach kids how to cook!
