Waldorf Salad

This is our version of a classic salad that was named for the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York City, where it was invented in 1896. It’s crunchy, creamy, juicy, and delicious.

  • Sharp knife (adult needed)
  • Measuring spoons
  • Measuring cups
  • Medium Bowl
  • Large spoon

Ingredients
 

  • 2 celery stalks, sliced
  • 1 tart apple, unpeeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 cup grapes (any color), halved (or another diced apple)
  • 1/2 cup toasted walnuts, coarsely chopped
  • 2 tbsp plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions
 

  • Put all the ingredients in the bowl and mix gently. Serve right away.

Notes

Get creative! Try adding any or all of the following to your Waldorf salad:
  • 1 cup fresh, frozen, or canned unsweetened pineapple chunks
  • 1 head romaine lettuce, cored and chopped
  • ¼ cup raisins or chopped dates
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups baby spinach or kale leaves
  • 1 cup diced or shredded cooked chicken
