Pita Chips and Crostini

These are homemade versions of the best things to dip or spread. It’s amazing how easy they are to make—and how much fresher and tastier they are than those you can buy at the store.

Hands-on time:

Total time:
20 minutes

Kitchen Gear

Sharp knife (adult needed)
Cutting board
Baking sheet
Pot holder
Measuring spoon
Pastry brush

1 whole-grain baguette, or 3 (7-inch) whole-grain pita breads
2 tablespoons olive oil

  1. Turn the oven on and set it to 400 degrees.
  2. Put the baguette slices on the baking sheet in a single layer and lightly brush both sides with oil. If you’re using pita, brush both sides of each round with oil, then cut into wedges on a cutting board before putting on the baking sheet.
  3. Put the baking sheet in the oven and bake until just golden, about 4 minutes per side. Cool before serving.
