What do you need to make a frozen dessert? Not much more than juice and your freezer.
- Measuring cup
- Measuring spoons
- Shallow metal pan
- 3 cups grapefruit juice
- 1⁄4 cup maple syrup, honey, or brown sugar
- Put all the ingredients in the pan and mix until combined. Carefully put the pan in the freezer.
- Using the fork, stir every 15 minutes until frozen, about 2 hours. Serve right away.
OR ELSE We love the zippy flavor of grapefruit in this recipe, but you can use orange or apple juice if you prefer — and you’ll probably need less sweetener. WHERE IN THE WORLD? We’re calling this “slush,” but it’s really the same recipe as an Italian dessert: granita. The word “granita” shares the same root as “granular,” because the frozen dessert has a grainy texture.
