Grapefruit Slush

What do you need to make a frozen dessert? Not much more than juice and your freezer.

  • Measuring spoons
  • Shallow metal pan
  • Spoon
  • Fork

Ingredients
 

  • 3 cups grapefruit juice
  • 1⁄4 cup maple syrup, honey, or brown sugar

Instructions
 

  • Put all the ingredients in the pan and mix until combined. Carefully put the pan in the freezer.
  • Using the fork, stir every 15 minutes until frozen, about 2 hours. Serve right away.

Notes

OR ELSE
We love the zippy flavor of grapefruit in this recipe, but you can use orange or apple juice if you prefer — and you’ll probably need less sweetener.
WHERE IN THE WORLD?
We’re calling this “slush,” but it’s really the same recipe as an Italian dessert: granita. The word “granita” shares the same root as “granular,” because the frozen dessert has a grainy texture.
