Cream Cheese Frosting

This is a luscious, tangy, not-too-sweet frosting that is great on zucchini bread or banana bread. Use it to frost the entire Date-Nut Cake — or cut slices of the cake and make mini-sandwiches with the frosting, like we did here.

  • Small bowl
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Large spoon
  • Table knife


  • 3⁄4 cup cream cheese
  • 1⁄4 cup plain or Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons real maple syrup
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon vanilla extract


  • Put all the ingredients in the bowl and mix until smooth.
  • When the cake is completely cool, use the knife to swirl the frosting over the top. Serve right away, or cover and refrigerate up to 1 day. 


Add 1 teaspoon lemon or orange zest to the frosting.
